Begin with the objective.
For Freedom Vault, financial independence means preserving the ability to make long-term decisions without being forced into short-term ones. It is a broader objective than maximising exposure to a single asset.
Bitcoin belongs in our sound-money thesis. That conviction does not remove market volatility or the need to think about liquidity, productive capital and obligations that may fall due at inconvenient times. Bitcoin.org itself highlights both price volatility and the importance of security practices.
Control comes with responsibilities.
Holding your own keys can reduce dependence on a custodian. It also changes who must manage backups, recovery and continuity. Bitcoin.org’s security guidance makes clear that safeguarding a wallet requires care; there is no automatic support desk for every mistake.
Our strategic question is therefore not “custody or no custody” in the abstract. It is which governance model fits the owner’s capabilities, counterparties and continuity needs.
Ownership is a starting point. Governance is what makes it durable.
Separate three decisions.
The monetary thesis, the portfolio construction decision and the operating model should not be collapsed into one. An asset may fit a long-term belief without being appropriate for every liability or every investor.
Likewise, investing in a company that serves the Bitcoin ecosystem is not the same exposure as holding bitcoin. The company needs its own case: customers, economics, capital requirements and a defensible product.
Why this belongs beside AI resilience.
The link is not that Bitcoin solves AI risk. It does not. The shared question is whether a person or organisation can retain control over the resources and systems it depends on. The risks—and the practical responses—remain different.
